<p class="MsoNormal">A proximity sensor deactivates the display and touchscreen

when the handset is brought near the face during a call. This saves battery

power and prevents unintentional inputs from the user's face and ears.

Proximity sensor in some handsets (like BlackBerry) also senses cases and

holsters to detect whether the phone is in or out of the holster. This

technology in such phones allows users to modify different notification
